The Route

This trip is designed to offer our guests the chance to see our coastline at its most exquisite. The celebrated Cornish light has inspired some of our finest artists since the Victorian era, and we strive to place you in the best spots to enjoy this magical time known as the golden hour.

We operate these trips during our spring tide cycles, which provide the best opportunity to see minke whales. Additionally, these trips follow our daytime Land’s End excursions that explore the same area, allowing us to gain valuable insights into the movements of cetaceans throughout the day. Coupled with the late evening hours, when our sea life is often most active gives us the best chance to find dolphins and porpoises.

While we visit many of the same locations as our Land’s End trip, we have added an extra 30 minutes to give us more time to track down and quietly observe the wildlife.

An added advantage of running evening trips is that, often (though not always), the wind calms as the sun sets.

We’ll depart from Penzance and head south, passing St. Clemence Island and Mousehole while keeping a lookout for seals. Our journey continues westward, stopping at Tater Du Lighthouse and the historic fishing hamlet of Penberth. We round Logan rock and into Porthcurno, famously known as the “Cornish Caribbean” and home to the renowned Minack Theatre.

Next, we’ll venture to the wild west, hugging the cliffs around Gwennap Head and entering the hidden bay of Nanjizal, celebrated for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. A short trip takes us to Land’s End, the southwestern tip of mainland UK, where dramatic seas and abundant wildlife thrive.

Our adventure continues to the Carn Bras reef, a major seal haul-out spot, and the iconic Longships Lighthouse. Looking back to land the Cornish peninsula is bathed in our famous golden light.

Afterward, we’ll surf the waves for four miles through the exhilarating Roland Stone Race. Finally, we’ll follow an underwater drop-off to the middle of Mounts Bay, creating ideal conditions for the “Dolphin Corridor,” where we often spot dolphins, porpoises, and even whales. often coming up so close to the boat that you could almost touch them. Along with amazing pelagic and coastal birds that soar over these waters and alongside the boat in the search for food.

Due to the dynamic nature of our waters, we must remain adaptable to changing conditions. The captain may adjust the route as necessary to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on board.
