At Coast Boat Trips, we live for the moments when the Atlantic comes alive with life. As the winter storms begin to retreat, the seas start to calm down, trading those heavy swells for the rhythmic, rolling Atlantic pulses we love. As we edge into 2026, there’s no better time to experience the raw, untamed beauty of the Cornish coastline than during the Easter break and the early days of spring.

The Cornish Spring: Sunshine and Salt Air
Don’t let the “variable” reputation of British weather fool you; spring in Cornwall can be surprisingly spectacular. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, we enjoy a climate where the average high temperatures in April reach around 12°C to 13°C. While we always respect the elements—and our Wild & Wonderful trips are ready to adapt if the sea gets a bit lively—Easter often brings those crisp, blue-sky days where the sun feels warm on your face as the sea breeze keeps things fresh. It’s the perfect recipe for a day on the water.

A Sky Full of Life: The Nesting Season
Spring is when our rugged cliffs truly come alive. From April through to July, the craggy rocks of the Cornish coast become a bustling metropolis for seabirds.
- Gannets, Razorbills, and Guillemots: Watch as they return in their thousands to cover the rocks, starting their nesting cycles.
- The Pursuit of Puffins: On certain routes, you might even spot the “clowns of the sea” bobbing on the waves as we cruise by.
- Expert Insights: Our guides—many of them marine biology graduates from local universities—will be on hand to point out everything from soaring fulmars to industrious oystercatchers.

The Arrival of the Risso’s Dolphins.
While common dolphins are our most frequent visitors, spring marks the exciting return of the more elusive Risso’s dolphins. These distinctive creatures, known for the white scarring on their grey bodies, often move closer to shore in spring as they follow their favourite prey, like cuttlefish and squid. Seeing a pod of these “scarred” beauties surfacing near the boat is a rare and unforgettable sight that usually begins around the April-to-May window.
Ready for Adventure?
Each of our trips is a unique journey. Whether you’re exploring the historic landmarks of Mount’s Bay, venturing out to Land’s End, or searching for offshore giants, spring offers a front-row seat to Cornwall’s seasonal transformation.
